Kismet Gallery: Call for Artists
By Spraygraphic | July 31, 2008
Kismet Gallery is celebrating its second anniversary with 2 SWEET AND SELDOM SEEN art show.
The new show, entitled “Railroad Ties,” will showcase the importance of trains on the street and graffiti art movement. The “Railroad Ties” show will consist of two separate but interrelated shows and an installation which will run concurrently. Artists may submit work for consideration in any or all of these shows. Submissions for the first part of the show must be work which is specifically inspired or related to train and or railroad culture. These can be images of trains, rail yard workers, hobos, boxcar graffiti, tracks, train abandonment, history/future of trains, etc. Work may be two dimensional or three dimensional in nature, and a variety of mediums will be considered, including photography.
For the second part of “Railroad Ties,” the Kismet crew will hand paint a life size boxcar and engine on one of its walls. For this aspect of the show, KISMET has an open call for artists to submit work without any content limitations. All art work will be displayed on our train and boxcar from “Top to Bottom.” There are no medium restrictions, but please make sure that all work is less than 36 x 48 inches in size.
The third aspect of the show will be an installation featuring hand painted O gauge model trains. The trains will permanently roll on our custom electric track throughout our 3,500 square foot gallery. If you are interested in submitting a hand painted train, please be advised that in order for the train to run on our track it must be an O gauge boxcar. Artists are expected not only to pay for the shipment of the boxcar to the gallery, but also to cover the cost of the model train itself. This is your chance to be part of an on-going exhibit, since all hand painted boxcars will be considered donations to the gallery and as such will remain permanently on display.
Where: 71 Fourth St. in Troy, NY (518-272-1918)
