Spraygraphic Interview with Tim Ham

SG: Please tell us about yourself?

TH: I am a designer and illustrator, I also make custom Vans for people. I am 23 years old. Male. Born in Az. Currently live in AZ…I love Action Sports and the beach. I have one sister. I love building relationships with people and making memories. I have never been to Egypt. Or Africa. I have also never been in Space, but I have been to Walmart and Target….

I like vinyl toys and indie music. I own too many pairs of Vans. I make funny noises at random moments. My name is Tim Ham. I am who I am.

SG: Where do you currently live and work?

TH: I currently work at a local coffee shop in Tempe and have a studio in Glendale. I am a freelance Artist. I mostly do digital illustrations, graphic design, and custom shoes.

SG: What mediums do you work with?

TH: I love spray paint, my Wacom tablet I couldn’t live without, airbrush paint, Paint pens, and for my graphic work I mostly use illustrator.

SG: Describe your working process when creating a new work.

TH: I turn on Pandora, and start working. I find most of my new work comes best when I don’t think about what direction I want to go with the piece and I kind of just let it flow..

SG: What kind of things do you do when you get blocked or find it hard to create something?

TH: I love to search other blog sites for inspiration, mostly on tumblr.

SG: Where are you currently finding your inspiration?

TH: I love action sports artists, I’ll sometimes turn on Fuel T.v. and just watch whatever is on to get some ideas.

SG: Where has your work been seen?

TH: I have had two write ups on the Vans blog and Facebook/website. I also just had graphics in the 2009 Xgames (Amy Zastrow had on her bike for supercross), I designed and painted a helmet for Supercross rider Chris Blose for the the 2008 supercross U.S Open in Las Vegas.

SG: Where will it be seen next?

TH: I am Keeping my fingers crossed, I would like to work a collaboration deal with Vans. But its all still in the making.

SG: What is your dream art assignment?

TH: I want to some day work for a action sports company doing design Or own my own line of limited clothes and shoes (possible a skate and surf company).

SG: What is your favorite color?

TH: Green, Green, and Green.

SG: Who is your favorite artist? And Why?

TH: Salvador Dalí, The thing I love most about Dali is there is always so much going on in all of his pieces and no matter how long I look at one, I will always find some hidden message or picture I never saw before. Its like my birthday every time I look at his art, always getting something new out of it.

SG: What book/magazine are you reading this week?

TH: I Don’t read a ton of Mags, Mostly web-sites But I have a Bliss sitting next to me and I love it. Their web site is awesome also. I am a huge fan of Design is Kinky also.

SG: Where is your favorite place to hang out?

TH: I like to hangout in my studio the most. I feel like a kid there. I hope someday It will be full time. My other favorite hangout would have to be my work, Xtreame bean, the people are awesome and I love meeting new people and finding out what they do in their life (jobs, hobbies, etc…)

SG: Any final words of advice?

TH: You can get anything you want in life, Its all about the choices we make. Don’t give up on your dreams, its one of the only things no one can ever take away from us. Buy a Furby.
