Spraygraphic Interview with Dumperfoo
SG: Please tell us about yourself?
AD: Greetings I’m Dumperfoo aka Adam Dumper , A 36 year old live painter, promoter, artist, graphic designer putting in work in Arizona & Cali since the late 80’s!!
SG: Where do you currently live and work?
AD: I live in Tempe , I work a couple days a week at Wet Paint Art Supply other wise I live off selling paintings, graphic design gigs, and my club night “The Blunt Club“
SG: What mediums do you work with?
AD: I use , Liquid Acrylics, Inks, Jumbo Markers, OTR’s, Krink, Spray Paint, Acrylics, Water Based Markers, Brush, Foam Brush, Paper Towels, and Crowd Energy…
SG: Describe your working process when creating a new work.
AD: To get prepared for a show I usually draw in my blackbook, come up with some sketches , most the time tho I just go off the top of the head.. I paint in front of crowds at concerts so I need that energy to create’ so its a lil weird for me to paint at home , so when I’m at home in the lab I just have my girlfriend Jessica clap and scream, and throw beer on me while blasting my stereo!!
SG: What kind of things do you do when you get blocked or find it hard to create something?
AD: I read some books & Magazines, sometimes I gotta travel outta town to paint (see what the other chef’s are cookin up artistically in other cities, that always gets my hype)..
SG: Where are you currently finding your inspiration?
AD: Painting on stage with my fellow live painters, Mahfood, Griffin, Salty, Stacks Malone, Mr.43, Eyeris One, Bicasso, Brez, Lerker, Kofie, Kane, Eloaf too name a few. Or I go surf the net and and look at some of my favorites The Mac, Coro One, Coop, Retna, Rime, Roy Miranda, Grimey, Giant, Jeff Soto, Alex Pardee, Silouette, too name a few, my list is long!!!
SG: Where has your work been seen?
AD: Hmmmnn, lots of galleries in AZ , I’ve done 6 or seven shows in SF, Ive hung art NM, LA, SD, TX ive painted at San Jose Museum Of Mod Art, And did a year straight of painting live at Scottsdale Museum of Mod Art. Rock The Bells in 3 cities, numerous festivals. “gem 7 Jam, Easter Moon, Good Times, SYMFestival “Reno”, Scribble Jam, or on your TV, I’ve painted live On Snoop Dogg Fatherhood Season 2 (painting hangs to this day in Snoop Doggs house), Man Caves Season 2, The Pick Up Artist, Music video’s, I’ve traveled the U.S. with my band Drunken Immortals countless times sellin paintings in every city. And you can prob see at least one or two in your favorite rapper, deejay, producers home or studio!!! A Lowrider show at the Phoenix Art Musuem with you guys/dolls at Spraygraphic. Oh yeah cant forget Skateboards, sk8 trucks, tshirts, stickers, dvd covers, cd covers!!
SG: Where will it be seen next?
AD: I paint at The Blunt Club almost every Thursday, I got a gig painting with Dj Ian Frost in Chicago next month, Im working on some designs for a Artist Series line of Skateboards for Board Pusher..And a Asian themed gallery show with Lerks in October. And I’m helping Yucca Tap room with a new gallery space next door to the bar we project to have open in a few months’ so I’ll be lookin for new artistic talent very soon!!!
SG: What is your dream art assignment?
AD: hmmmm good question.. I feel blessed I’ve done what I’ve done so far, so I dont wanna jinx it!!
SG: What is your favorite color?
AD: Green
SG: Who is your favorite artist? And Why?
AD: I don’t really have one favorite, sorry … I have waaaaaay too many influences!!
SG: What book/magazine are you reading this week?
AD: I love Vice Magazine, Juxtapoz, Fader, XL8R, Clout, Stylefile,
SG: Ever do a self portrait? Where is it now?
AD: Alot of my work looks like me’ so yeah, wheres it now? Lookin at someone and creeping them out!!!
SG: Where is your favorite place to hang out?
AD: The Blunt Club, or in LA or San Fransisco
SG: Any final words of advice?
