Spraygraphic Interview with Britt Ehringer
SG: Please tell us about yourself?
BE: I’m a handsome weirdo.
SG: Where do you currently live and work?
BE: I was working on a 50 acre ranch in Yucaipa California, but I’ve just lost my studio space.
SG: What mediums do you work with?
BE: I like them all.
SG: Describe your working process when creating a new work.
BE: Every piece is different. Sometimes an idea comes to me and other times I’ll just be struck by a certain image. Then, if it’s a painting I’ll sketch something out on the computer. I print it out and draw it on the canvas..after that I just go were the painting takes me.
SG: What kind of things do you do when you get blocked or find it hard to create something?
BE: Get drunk and draw.
SG: Where are you currently finding your inspiration?
BE: Kittens!!
SG: Can you please tell us a little about your piece, The Drowning Pool.
BE: I was fascinated with painting water and the figure. This piece led to a whole series of women in water paintings.
SG: Can you please tell us a little about your piece, Hanging Gardens of Baghdad.
BE: The writing in the painting is Arabic for "Pizza Hut"
SG: Can you please tell us about the group show you were in, Moods for Moderns .
BE: Brad Benedict (the curator) was kind enough to ask me to be in both Show 1 & Show 2
There were lots of great artists in the show and quite a few were friends I’ve never shown with..so that was cool.
SG: Where has your work been seen?
BE: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Barcelona, Berlin..I just did a piece for the Coachella Music Festival .
SG: Where will it be seen next?
BE: I’ll be in a couple of group shows around Los Angeles in June and in a book coming out in August.
SG: What is your dream art assignment?
BE: I would like to wallpaper the moon.
SG: What is your favorite color?
BE: Raw Umber
SG: Who is your favorite artist? And Why?
BE: Whomever has something good to steal.
SG: What book/magazine are you reading this week?
BE: "I Drank From The Zambezi " by Arthur Loveridge
SG: Ever do a self portrait? Where is it now?
BE: Sure. I’ll usually give them to my family.
SG: Where is your favorite place to hang out?
BE: In bed.
SG: Any final words of advice?
BE: Only amateurs enjoy painting.
