SG: Please tell us about yourself?

JH: My name is Jesse Hora and I am a chubby, white, graphic artist from the Mid-West.

SG: Where do you currently live and work?

JH: I live in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago, IL and I currently doubling up; working major freelance jobs via my website , as well as working full-time as a designer/illustrator at a lifestyle communications agency called Tangible.

SG: What mediums do you work with?

JH: Being a natural born illustrator/artist I start with pencil & paper, but as a graphic design I will inevitably use the computer at some point.

SG: Describe your working process when creating a new work.

JH: My work is directly inspired by the experiences of the my life, as probably most creative types will attest to. My ideas come when i am not thinking. Once I have my vision, its just a matter of getting in the right mind set to execute. As far as my working process, its varies greatly on the perimeters of the project. I get bored quickly with doing the same style over and over, and I don’t want to get pigeon holed into a one trick pony, so I like to keep experimenting with my process.

SG: What kind of things do you do when you get blocked or find it hard to create something?

JH: Get a ‘creative block’ is part of the game, it just happens and the only solution is to work through it. One of the tricks that I use is to play a word association game called Rhyme or Reason (email me if you want to know how I play).

SG: Where are you currently finding your inspiration?

JH: I just got back form a trip to the Dominican Republic, driving scooters along the coast and through shack villages, that was incredibly inspiring. I love experiencing new and unique cultures, it is a great way to get a new perspective. Visually some of the things I am currently looking at are; 1950’s candy packaging, bugs, meat textures, Kimbo Slice, pretty much the magic of Google.

SG: Can you please tell us a little about your Adidas Originals project? How did that project come about?

JH: The Adidas Originals illustration series came about like most of my work, through the awesomeness of the internet. Basically Adidas Originals contacted me and gave me a breakdown of the project and asked if I was interested. The project was a nation wide illustration series, so I was exhilarated with the opportunity. They gave me a great deal of creative freedom so I went to work. In the end the illustrations were featured in 16 major cities around the country as part of the in-store holiday promotion. In end is was one of the greatest experiences that anyone could ask for as an artist.

SG: Where else has your work been seen?

JH: Besides the Adidas project which was shown around the country, I have also been fortunate enough to have my work featured in national publications such as BPM Magazine , as well as in numerous local publications throughout the midwest. My posters have been purchased by people from around the world, and I have have also worked with clients form around the world. Here are some of the clients that I have worked for Mountain Dew , Bubblicious , Thirdeye Magazine , Leo Burnett , Sigma Kappa, Vita Morte Clothing, Grand Valley State University , Million Person Project , Chicago Magazine , Office Max , Sims Snowboards , Miller Brewing Co. , Y&R.

SG: Where will it be seen next?

JH: I just finished up some apparel illustration work for WanerBros+Reprise Records and I am working on a few more shirts for Clandestine Industries , which is Pete Wentz’s clothing company. Also I have a series of prints in the works. Keep your eyes on the internet for those!

SG: What is your dream art assignment?

JH: A self promo for JesseHora.com, I like to do it often.

SG: What is your favorite color?

JH: White

SG: Who is your favorite artist? And Why?

JH: Jesse Hora, he has styles for miles! (I joke)

SG: What book/magazine are you reading this week?

JH: Nylon Mag , Wired , Disk Makers catalog and "The Witches" by Roald Dahl

SG: Ever do a self portrait? Where is it now?

JH: I do many self portraits, I actually put my likeness in most projects that I work on. In fact I have so many drawings of me that I am working on an illustration that includes them all.

SG: Where is your favorite place to hang out?

JH: Jesse Hora Headquarters

SG: Any final words of advice?

JH: Keep your eyes tuned to my website, I have some new prints coming out, a booklet waiting to get sent to the printers, and a facelift on the way!
